Gaikundo is a coffee-washing factory part of the Rumukia Farmer's Cooperative Society, located near Kagumo town in Nyeri's southern region. The farms average 1600 meters above sea level, with some reaching 2000 meters, and feature rich red volcanic loam soils. Gaikundo ensures quality by requiring farmers to sort coffee cherries by ripeness upon delivery, removing under-ripe and damaged ones that could affect flavour. After harvesting, the beans undergo a double wash process: first, the fruit-covered seeds ferment in water tanks to remove stickiness, then they are washed again in clean water. These meticulous steps enhance the coffee's quality and its unique flavour profile with a longer sweet aftertaste.
